Giving Tuesday 2018

Giving Tuesday 2018

Happy Giving Tuesday! For those asking “what’s Giving Tuesday?”, it’s the Tuesday after Thanksgiving that’s been designated as a worldwide day of giving; sort of the antidote to all the Black Friday/Cyber Monday shopping.

This Giving Tuesday, we decided to focus on a group of cats that are often forgotten; our outside colony cats. You can help these cats survive the cold this winter!

Colonies are formed when we find a stray feral cat, take her to the vet for her shots, exam, and to get spayed, then return her to the place she came from (assuming it’s a safe place, otherwise we would relocate the cat). There we have small shelters to help the cats stay warm & dry, and volunteers come daily to feed them and make sure they’re doing ok.

This program, called trap-neuter-return-maintain, works well for most of the year, but it gets tough in the winter. When we get snow, it can make it difficult or impossible for the cat to get to her food dish or warm house, or, worst case scenario, she could get trapped inside her warm house or trapped outside and freeze to death.

We have found it difficult to stay on top of all the snow removal with only volunteers, so we have decided to hire plow companies so we can be sure the cats will make it through the winter ok. So this campaign is to help with the cost of snow removal for the colony cats. We want to make sure we don’t lose even one cat to the cold and inclement Northeastern winter.

So please help if you can, and here’s another way to help: buy a t-shirt! It’s a great way to help these unfortunate cats and show the world you’re a cat supporter!

Thank you for helping us help these special cats survive the winter!
