Meet Carrie

Meet Carrie

🍼 Have you ever seen a bottle baby before? Meet Carrie.

The Cat Connection is located in Massachusetts, and our focus is helping Massachusetts cats. But sometimes, we get a chance to help our neighbors. This week, a TCC volunteer was contacted by a woman in Connecticut who was urgently seeking help. She’d been hearing kitten cries from an outdoor structure and had discovered a single newborn kitten.

Our thoughtful CT neighbor put out food for mama cat, but although mama came back to eat, she didn’t take her kitten with her. Night was coming and temperatures were dropping. When you find a newborn, it’s best to try to reunite them with mom. But as the cold set in and the kitten remained alone, the neighbor began calling myriad rescues. Some weren’t able to answer, and one didn’t have anyone who could take a newborn kitten. Then she connected with The Cat Connection.

One of our volunteers drove down to Hartford, scooped up kitten Carrie, and rushed her to a bottle feeder in East Boston. Bottle babies need a LOT of attention and care! And discovering a kitten outside can be nerve-wracking, especially one as young as Carrie. If you find yourself in a similar situation, we recommend calling a rescue to trap mom and babies and move them into foster care.

You can also learn more about the care involved with neonatal kittens, what to do if you find kittens, and how to care for kitten fosters, from renowned educator Hannah Shaw (aka the Kitten Lady).

Carrie is about a week old, and despite having a rough start in life, she’s promisingly eating and on her way to growing bigger than her stuffies. 🧡
