Hi, I am Spencer. My friends and I at The Cat Connection have a favor to ask of you. I know a lot of you out there have family members of the feline persuasion. You may even have gotten them from one of the many animal shelters or rescue groups in the area. If so, you probably appreciate the important work that rescue groups do in order to save the lives of many forgotten and unwanted animals. If you don’t already know the joy of saving the life of an animal by adopting or fostering one from a shelter or through a rescue, you may be thinking it is something you would like to do. You are in luck! The Cat Connection has cats for adoption, and we are looking for special people who are willing to share their lives with a special feline or two or three. We have many cats that have been waiting a long time to find their forever homes because they are shy, and they don’t know how to present themselves to prospective adopters like some of the more confident cats do. These are the cats I would like to talk about today. These are not your “move-in ready” variety of cat that everyone wants to adopt. You know that type, the cats that show themselves very proudly and have lots of confidence. They know how to strut their stuff and really grab your attention. Those cats hardly ever get passed up when someone sees them at a shelter. And The Cat Connection has those cats, too, but they get adopted quickly. When you first see a shy cat at a shelter, you may want to just pass him by. But each and every shy cat has his or her own special qualities, too. Some are playful, some are entertaining to watch, some will let you pet them, even though they seem afraid, some may hiss at you and others may run and hide from you. They all have one thing in common. They all need someone to love and care for them forever. Doesn’t everyone want to be loved? Cats want that, too!
The type of people we are looking for need to have patience and kindness, and they need to understand that living with a shy cat can be very rewarding, but it requires a lot of work and time getting to know them. Shy cats just need to learn to trust people and build up confidence so they aren’t scared any more. We hope that once you meet some of our shy cats, you may want to try adopting or even fostering. The people at The Cat Connection are there every step of the way with advice to help and guide you. More about my story, remember me, Spencer! I am one of those shy cats. I am mostly black with tiger markings and white. My mother is named Sweet Pea, who is also very shy, and she lives with me at our current foster home. She is the gorgeous calico pictured here. I am a handsome cat with a white nose and bib. We were rescued almost a year ago, and we are really bonded to each other. I guess you could say I am a momma’s boy. That’s okay, I am not insulted. I love my momma! I really don’t know what I would do without her. I have two brothers, too. We were tiny kittens when we were found last fall with our mom living outside. She was only about a year old herself then! That is when we were rescued by The Cat Connection. My two brothers were adopted earlier this year by awesome people. I was so excited for them! I wish that could happen to my mom and me too. The people that adopted my brothers came to visit us several times and stayed for hours just interacting and playing. My brothers are shy like mom and me but over those several visits, the people bonded with my brothers and decided to adopt them. And boy are they a happy family now! They were willing to take a chance on shy cats, and it really worked out. Actually, The Cat Connection can tell you lots of stories like that about shy cats who found new foster homes and eventually their forever homes simply because people cared enough to take a chance on them. I hope someone decides to take a chance on my mom and me someday.
Oh, one last thing. I especially want to mention my friend Harvey who lives with my mom and me right now. He is a dashing black cat. Maybe you read his story in the paper a few weeks ago. He is a fun kitty, and he is my best bud. Harvey is really sweet and affectionate, and he is not shy. He watches out for my mom and me like we are all one big family. He is FIV+, but he is really healthy. I would love for you to come meet me and my mom and Harvey at our foster home. You could hang out with us and we could get to know each other. Hey, you might meet us and decide that we are all so awesome, you want all three of us!
