Hello, my name is Sunflower and I have a brother named Link. I am a beautiful short hair black beauty cat and Link is a gorgeous all gray short hair cat and we make a handsome pair. We are about fourteen months old. We were living in a town called Belmont.
I want to tell you our story, our owners loved us, for a while. They got us when we were only eight weeks old but evidently the novelty wore off because the next thing we knew we were outside fending for ourselves. They went off out of the country and just left us there by ourselves! I was hungry and curious so I went off and somehow made my way to a place called Watertown. They say that I even crossed some big street called Trapelo Rd.
I was scared, and lost, and very hungry because I hadn’t eaten for days. Then this nice lady found me and called The Cat Connection. They took me to a Veterinary Hospital to have me checked over and to see if I had a chip implanted and sure enough I did! The Cat Connection people called and called the people that owned me and even went to the house I used to live in, they found my brother Link! He was crying on the front doorstep and he was so hungry! He couldn’t understand why nobody was letting him in and he was really starving. They gave him food and he just gobbled it right up. Everyone thinks that cats can survive out there on their own, but unless they grew up out there with a mother to teach them how to hunt and find someplace safe, then they can’t do it! That is why I went wandering and Link just kept going to the door looking for someone to help him!
They rang the doorbell and no answer, each night they went back to find my brother still waiting and very hungry with nobody home. They kept calling on the phone and leaving messages, and feeding Link. Then the hot spell came and no return calls and nobody home, so they took Link home to be with me while they tried to reach our owners. The Cat Connection people reached out for help from Animal Control and finally spoke to the owner. They had just returned from their trip out of the country and they said the worst thing possible; they didn’t want us anymore. How could they do that? You know we are living breathing creatures and we love and we like to be loved and you know you shouldn’t just toss us out like yesterday’s trash.
They took both of us to the vet to be checked out and to get our shots and have a good exam. It turns out I have a heart murmur and my brother has one too, but his is not as bad as mine, his is very tiny. Because mine was worse they said I needed a Cardiac Ultrasound, which I had and they found that my heart valves don’t work right, but right now I am ok and I don’t have to take any medications. They want me to have another Ultrasound in six months to see if there are any changes. At some point in my life I will have to be on medications for my heart murmur.
The Director called my old owners and left a message asking them to make a donation for the Ultrasounds and guess what? They never called back, but that is not really a surprise is it? Why would someone who tossed their cats out want to help them in any way? The thing is, these Cat Connection people keep saying that there are more people around like them that love cats and try to help them. So I am here to tell you that Link and I are two wonderful sweet loving and playful kitty cats and we are looking for a new home. We would love to be adopted together or at least find a nice family to foster us. We are also asking if someone would like to sponsor us to help pay our medical bills and upcoming second Cardiac Ultrasound. If you foster us, you won’t have to pay for the Ultrasound. Somehow, the Cat Connection will find the money, maybe from someone else reading this story. But, it sure would be nice to have someone that loves and takes care of us!
